Lot 4188 PUBLISHED PROBABLE SAN FRANCISCO MADE DISTINCTIVE

LANYARD SWIVEL BOWIE KNIFE. 9.25" overall, 5.25" slightly upswept clip point blade, beveled to edge, German silver mounted with no cross guard, sculpted octagonal dark wood handle with mother-of-pearl insets. There are several of these knives known, one with abalone inset grips, one pictured in Flayderman has fitted German silver sheath with iron belt clip, nearly identical to those found on most every Michael Price dress knife which makes me believe these are San Francisco products. Pictured on page 131 of James Johnston's "ACCOUTREMENTS 4". Interesting antebellum American knife with swiveling lanyard ring on pommel. CONDITION: very good overall. PROVENANCE: James R. Johnston collection. (02-26012/JS). NON-GUN. $1,500-2,000.
